Welcome to Sugino Costume Museum.
Sugino Costume Museum opened in 1957 as the first costume museum in Japan.
Madam Yoshiko Sugino, founder of Sugino Gakuen, dedicated herself to popularizing Western clothing and creating fashion in Japan, and as a basis of her activity, she established dressmaking education. Being aware that in order to promote dressmaking education in Japan it would be necessary to provide a place where people could closely observe the historical development of Western costumes, Madam Sugino opened the museum to display Western costumes that she had collected herself for the education of the students.
Sugino Costume Museum permanently exhibits Western costumes. In addition, the museum gives a themed exhibition every year. It also plays a role as an affiliated research facility in supporting dressmaking education at Sugino Gakuen.
The museum is located close to JR Meguro Station and surrounded by Sugino Fashion College, Sugino Fashion Junior College, and Dressmaker Gakuin on “Doreme Street.” We appreciate your support and hope to see you soon.
